On Sunday the 7/10/18 we had the opportunity to attend the AHHBA Classification at Rosymoon Haflinger stud. It was a lovely day, very well organised, with a friendly atmosphere. All of the horses presented were beautiful in turn out and behavior, so I’m sure did their breeders and owners proud.

The classifiers Cathy Padgen and Carol Fitzpatrick were joined by Heidi Stevens and Liz Grant both in training as potential future classifiers for our breed. We were then treated to a demonstration drive by Ben Rosetta with Rosymoon Nottingham, and Maaike van Dam riding the Rosymoon stallion Sebastopol. A great lunch prepared by the Rosetta’s and their hard working helpers followed.

A credit to the Rosymoon team to carry off this event in such good humour amidst a week of foaling down and the beginnings of a busy breeding season. Amanda Flood.

It was a weekend of Australian tradition as the Scone Horse Parade celebrated it’s 37th year. Horses of all breeds attended the parade and there was a large array of horse activities to attend including, polo, tent pegging, The Guy McLean Show, the Hunt Club and of course the parade. There is also a huge rodeo and party usually but this year the construction of the new horse stadium at White Park delayed the rodeo until next year and have promised a bigger and better venue to hold future events. The haflingers always draw attention from crowds and we are hoping that more haflinger owners join us in the 2019 Scone Parade next May. Owners may ride, lead or drive their horses or event walk in the parade as a banner of flag bearer. Let’s get these beautiful horses into the public eye and also offer an opportunity for AHHBA members to get together for some fun.

Maxine and Tony Laing hosted the first AHHBA classification day on the 14th January at their property at Mt Walker West, about half an hour west of Ipswich.

Maxine presented 5 horses. Her mare Onni had been classified via video as a youngster and reclassified on the day. Her 4 daughters Orlina, Oriana, Orial and Orvala were also presented. Darren and Melanie Fedrick from Boonah presented Mika and Aslan.

The horses we all presented beautifully and the Classifiers, Cathy Padgen and Carol Fitzpatrick commended the Queenslanders on their excellent presentation and outstanding behaviour and training. It was also an opportunity to meet new members Tim and Louise Ullrich and Vicky Sedgewick.

Thanks to Maxine for hosting a wonderful day, and to those Queensland members that banded together to make the day successful.

A special thanks to Amanda and Andrew Flood for making it all happen and for their incredible hospitality.

What an amazing effort by all involved. Paul and Sharon Groves for traveling down with all the gear and speaking to people all day every day then packing it all up and facing the long drive home.

Heather Payne traveling down speaking to people all day ( many who remember her from previous years and dropped in especially to catch up). Caitlin Hennessey who despite full time work and running a Pony Club made time and the effort to bring Atlas and wow the crowds.

Kerrie Sperl and her family brought crowd favorite Starlight who thrived with all her admirers and behaved and performed impeccably in the heaviest schedule of all the Haflingers at her first event.

And what can I say about my team. Kate Lovig who takes all the load off me when presenting my horse. Andrea my sister who is always behind the scenes doing most of the work. Alexandra Laukart my niece who is always there to ‘put the thing in the thing for me even if she doesn’t know what the thing is’ and makes things fun of the day.

The NSW Classification was held at Fernances Creek on 5 November 2016. We had a good turnout of horses and members with some travelling as far as New Zealand to attend the day. There were 6 mares, 2 geldings and 1 stallion classified. We even had a few non-Haflinger spectators visiting that wanted to learn more about the breed.

The day started with a ‘Greet and Meet’ coffee of members and visitors, followed by a very busy trot out, free run and photography session of the horses before the judges Cathy Padgen, Carol Fitzpatrick and Coralie Smyth. Once the classification was finished, the members and visitors all sat down to a nice, social lunch.

After lunch Fernances Creek invited Coralie Smyth a qualified Working Equitation instructor to give the members an introduction to Working Equitation. The members then rode their horses through the Working Equitation Course and received instruction and theory on Working Equitation. It was a fun day and so nice to see so many Haflingers on the course.

It was a very successful Classification Day and we hope it will encourage other members to try out Working Equitation and open up another sport for the breed.
